It all happened all at the same time too. He really didn't even know the album was going out. Carl's wife and family had many discussions about the album.įinally that put it out. Carl's wife wouldn't allow the record to go out either, only because Carl didn't want it to go out. He said the grammar was bad and the music represented evil. The Manager and Band always asked him about putting out the album. Just think how into the music he is and how committed he is. Carl was then again hospitalized for a Mental illness. It will be called "FOREST FOR THE TREES".It would feature a super catchy song called dream. He made many songs and narrowed them down to an album. After the making of most of the album, Carl started to talk about remixes of the album. The record became part of Carl's entire LIFE!!! All he would do is get up and work on the album the whole entire day. His true break came when him and BECK collaborated to make none other than LOSER.Carl basically made the music while Beck made the lyrics.Stephenson afterwards decided about a carer of trip hop with an actual band.He soon made up a group name. ![]() Carl was a well know artist in his area. His first project in music was with none other than public rapiers at rap a lot records. He also worked with a young group called the college boys. Those were good for him but didn't put him on the map. What it is (which I find fascinating) is you go to sleep and basically dream.None of this TV jumble. You dream. That's what you and his buddy in college made a synthesizer.ACTUALLY MADE A SYNTHESIZER. He is very eccentric.Ĭarl always claims to tune into the dream channel. In his early days he was hospitalized for Mental Illness. This great music human is called "carl stephenson". Since he was as young as 9 he could play things like the violin and other instruments with ease. It all started as a young boy who musical talent was above the rest. ![]() The song was semi-forgotten, until Bong Load Records finally released the song as a single in 1993. Stephenson took one of Beck's slide guitar riffs, looped it and added all the musical layers, including the drum beats, sitar, and a great funky bassline. At that time, I had taken several sitar lessons, so I laid some sitar into a track to see what he thought of it, and he started scribbling down some ideas that he had onto a piece of notebook paper, and after a couple of hours, we roughed out an idea for 'Loser,' the first song that we ever did together. ![]() He seemed pretty all-around unimpressed." Carl himself also remembered, "I had some ideas of some grooves, and I played them for Beck. Beck remembers how they hooked up: "Tom had called up and said, ‘Hey, I know this guy who does hip-hop beats and stuff.’ I said, ‘Oh yeah, well sometimes I rap between songs and get people from the audience to do the beat-box thing into the mike.’ So we went to this guy’s house and I played him a few of my folk songs. Shortly after being "discovered" by the Bong Load guys, in 1991 or 1992, Beck was sent over to Carl Stephenson's house, where they recorded "Loser" in his living room while they ate pizza and Doritos.
